Professional Bio
Kyla Hartunian is a full-time English teacher for grades 9-12 at a public high school in Pennsylvania and a first year composition (FYC) writing instructor for ASU's Writers' Studio, a fully online first-year composition course housed in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts.
As a classroom teacher, she implements theory-to-practice teaching methods with a critically informed, multimodal focus in real time and contexts. As a FYC instructor, she connects with diverse adult learners in creative, compassionate ways to facilitate their entry into college-level writing. Professor Hartunian's role at an R1 university also provides cutting edge training and development in teacher education and technology-driven methodologies.
Professor Hartunian is currently a doctoral student in the Department of Literature, Language, and Writing at IUP, where she is continuing her research on the value of professional writing programs for U.S. military personnel, the connection between writing and identity building in contemporary K-12 classrooms, and the potential role of composition and literature in building trauma-informed classrooms.
