A quick reflection on the course...

I was hesitant to take ENGL867 this summer, since I am not currently in a WPA role. However, I was very excited to work with Dr. Driscoll and learn more about this aspect of becoming a writing studies professional. Sure enough, I learned so much about the nuances and complexities of running a writing center: what skill sets can I use to leverage my potential role as a director or assistant director of a writing center? What experiences and assets do I bring to the table as "edge" properties: things that intersect with other interests and that could help "level up" resources for staff and students? We also spent quite a bit of time diving into the intricacies of Writing Across the Curriculum--highlighting some of the overlapping characteristics this approach shares with Writing Centers while also posing some very unique, exciting possibilities. All in all, this is course material that I am certain to reference again and again in my professional journey and I am so grateful I took the plunge and enrolled in the course!
